3 dogs, 2 cats, recently wed. I married for the first time at 46 so have all kinds of questions about this mess I've gotten myself into! I don't have a blog, but I do tweet!

This minion is in (with a wink to the fire cat!). I cannot lock into an amount, but will donate what my budget allows to the charity of Heather's choosing. I already have several "faves" plus the weekly collection plate, but there is always room to "do more good".
I recently came across a quote from Anne Frank that I think beautifully sums up what we are seeing here:
"How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world."
She was a wise young lady.
Thank you, Heather and all the minions!
www.handsofhopeonline.org The founder is a dear friend of the family and my mother was also closely involved in the launching of this group. They are specifically to help women and girls in African Nations. Please take a look even if this isn't the organization you select.
Thanks!
This is an interesting question for me because I recently saw some of the effects. Very dear friends of mine named their oldest son after their fathers - Michael Herman (last name). 6 weeks or so ago, he passed away at the age of 18. His father has been posting passages from the boy's journal and one such post talked about his middle name. He said when he was little he hated it. But as he grew up, he developed a strong sense of pride being named for his Grandfather. He saw it as the link tying generations together and it became a badge of honor. Would that have changed again down the road? Who knows. I do know how terribly important it is for his family to know of his pride in his name. You never know what life will toss you-honoring your family in this manner can never be a bad thing.
Welbutrin. I had the added benefit of getting it from my psychiatrist who balanced it with my Paxil. I still take both 4 years later and not only don't I smoke, I don't live in that deep, dark, horrible hole I lived in.
I'm in a house of dogs :-). A Malinois, a Boxer/Shepard (her as a puppy in my avatar) and a Doberman/Lab. I actually picked it as my name in the company football name...sounded "footbally"!
Brava for you on taking them up on a request for honesty. Step one is HR. It'll be very hard because of where you are internally, but you need to give them the story coolly and objectively. Any company worth its salt will have an HR department that will act impartially. Step two is never bring it up again to anyone except your boss who you are cool with.
One thing you may have done is ripped the scab off, so to speak. Now maybe others will get the nerve to speak up. But boy is it hard to be the trailblazer. Remember though, that what happens, happens for a reason. It may suck donkeys at first, but it will work out to the best for you at the end.
Also, please accept my sincere condolences on your mother. She's lucky to have a caring daughter, just remember to take care of yourself, too. We're here whenever you need a vent.
I've discovered @annleary. She is Denis Leary's wife and an author in her own right. She's also led me to @tremendousnews who makes me laugh. @blogess makes me laugh too!
I can has cheezburger (all of them-total addict)
Awkward Family Pictures
Crazy Things Parents Say (similar to Sh*t my dad says)
The Superficial (he cracks me up)
And just for sugar overload: Daily Squee :-)
Well, my husband doesn't do it at all. I know this because he has no hair on his palms and 20/20 vision. *wink*
I kid. He's almost every day and I say bless his heart!
Funeral For A Friend/And Love Lies Bleeding -- Elton John. Starting slowly with the organ swelling to a rocking song.
When a friend of mine died at the age of 31, they carried his casket out of the church to Jimmy Buffet's "Son of a Son of a Sailor".
omg- the doocebags! i vote for this as our community name (so long as everyone else's humor is as twisted as mine).
Looking at her other questions and answers, I think this was meant in a playful spirit.
But to answer the question, I think a far better title would be, "Benevolent Leader of the Doocebags."
That is a rather mean-spirited question.
Can I get back to you on this later.I'm late for work..
Wellbutrin, wellbutrin, wellbutrin. The only way I've been able to quit for longer than a few weeks. It's amazing. You smoke regularlay for a week or so while on it, and then you stop. Instead of having a craving every five minutes, I had three cravings...... a day.
Totally amazing.
Definitely go to the HR department, if you company has one, which it must given that it sounds like a big enough company to warrant such a department. Put everything in writing, state your grievances, state what happened. Also, specifically say they said there would be no retaliation and that you now feel like there has been.
Are there really women that don't know this? I mean, maybe not every day, but certainly frequently. Also, if a guy tells you he doesn't look at porn, 98.4% of the time he is lying. The other 1.6%, he's Amish.
Other people. Yep, that pretty much boils it down.
Dooce is going to stalk me? I have to be honest, she's going to be woefully disappointed with me. Or, I'm cooler than I realize. Could go either way, really.
a friend of mine and i were eating out at a steak house one night. there was a table of 4 army guys nearby, all dressed in their uniforms. they were so polite to their waitress and they seemed to be having a nice time. we called their waitress over and told her to give us their bill and not tell them who paid it for them. just to tell them thank you for standing up and fighting for our country. it was so great to see their smiles. :)
